How do you love your neighbour?

Ufuoma Odebala-Fregene, Founding member & Executive Director of Reez will share details about her racial socialization work for a kinder, more respectful, healthier and indeed, safer community.

Theme: How can you better manage your fight, flight or freeze responses to co-creating solutions to address racism and white supremacy?

In Collaboration with St. Albert United Church, we’re hosting a “love thy neighbour discussion” on October 16, 2019 from 7-8.30pm

  • How comfortable are you in dealing with racial encounters?
  • How competent are you in identify and addressing systemic racism?
  • How do we better prepare our children, youth and allies to be racially competent?
  • Is ignorance an excuse for doing nothing?
  • How can be more supportive neighbours to one another?

Our children’s brain development and abilities are compromised due to hateful harassments online and offline, alt-right sentiments, extremist terrorism, and negative nationalistic activities.  Let’s begin this brave conversation to tackle this centuries-old challenge for sustainable prosperity.

    Did you know?

You and/or your child can help each other to regulate your emotions when you are struggling.  Remember! Your brain and your relationships are power sources to:

    • Calm your fear.  Use logic (upstairs brain).
    • Control Impulses: Use your upstairs brain to put a space between your impulse and actions
    • Name it to tame it – Name whatever is causing distress. It has a calming effect (Siegel).
    • Connect & Redirect: Tune into another’s experience (compassion) and mental state (empathy), then redirect.
